"As human beings, our job in life is to help people realize how rare and valuable each one of us really is, that each of us has something that no one else has—or ever will have—something inside that is unique to all time. It’s our job to encourage each other to discover that uniqueness and to provide ways of developing its expression.”  - Mr. Fred Rogers

Anil Arora, LCSW - Offers Only Telehealth Therapy

Denver & Lakewood, CO & CA Individual Therapist, Relationship Therapist, Couples & Marriage Counselor

Hi, I’m Anil Arora, and I am a native to Denver, Colorado but have enjoyed living life in Los Angeles California and Houston Texas through my educational journey. As a first generation Indian American, I have had the opportunity to have personally experienced cultural differences, interracial relationship dynamics, and healthy boundaries. My culture has created a strong foundation in my sense of connection, compassion, and respect.

As I began to further my education, I was intrigued by the need to understand the mind and behaviors related to individuals, so I pursued my bachelor’s in psychology from CU-Boulder. While I spent time studying, I worked at a private practice for troubled teens with addiction and children on the autism spectrum. The focus was not only helping the individual but the entire family system. I believe that it is important that we service the whole person, which is why relationship therapy is key.

I have a passion for learning, so I was able to take classes on human sexuality, death and dying, human judgement and decision-making. I decided I wanted to look at the broader family system when it comes to working with individuals. I continued my education at the University of Southern California where I obtained my Master of Social Work degree (MSW). There I was given the opportunity to work with different populations such as: young kids, teen parents, veterans and their families. Over the years of work I have become a licensed clinical social worker and enjoy working with couples.

My latest journey has been working on my doctoral degree in social work from the University of Houston where I have learned the importance of blending research and practice. As an individual I believe in the power of community, and see how community driven research creates a lasting impact. I have been privileged to work with a diverse group of scholars and publish a wide range of papers on young adults experiencing housing insecurity and their mental health, two chapters on suicide and religion, and multiple papers connected to the military and veteran population. I have always had an interest in understanding mental health utilization patterns and my dissertation focuses on military sexual trauma for women, institutional betrayal, moral injury, and trying to understand which factor impacts mental health service utilization the most.

Outside of my educational drive, I have also had to take time to explore my own cultural vulnerability, along with being my authentic self in a bicultural relationship. Identifying as a child of an immigrant and marrying a person who also identifies similarly but from a different culture has been a journey worth writing a book on. This relational experience has helped me understand the importance of being my true self individually and in all relationships. I want to support your journey in expressing your true self individually and within the couple system. Open and honest communication is an area of focus as we work to create the relationship you deserve. Over time I developed a passion for facilitating healing through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI) techniques. I have also been able to complete level 1 and level 2 of Gottman training.

As a therapist, my style is very straight forward, and tend to work with families, couples, and individuals. I enjoy working with people who want to see changes. Through my experience, I have found no two individuals are the same, but therapy will give you an opportunity to express thoughts that allow you to obtain the most authentic relationship with yourself. At the heart of Anil’s partnership with the couple or an nindividual, is his conviction that much more is possible than people ordinarily think. I believe that despite the various frustrations, issues, and barriers there are strengths and successes to build upon. I want to help you find the tools, skills, and strategies that are true to you and will allow you to live a full life.

Want to work with Anil? Have Some Questions for him?

"Anil, you are skilled in couples therapy. We made more progress in sessions with him than I thought we would make in month-long stretches. We've been "out" of therapy for months now and we've never been happier. After 20+ years of marriage, we learned skills for dialing down the tension and are much better communicators now. We'd both highly recommend his services to any couple in doubt... and that's coming from someone who went in with a lot of doubt!"

“Anil helped us transform the parts of our relationship that weren't working, and when we walked out of his office after our final appointment, we felt excited about our ability to communicate and enjoy our relationship in ways we never thought were possible. We also felt confident that we would be able to maintain the "new" relationship we had created, because of the way Anil gently guided us towards seeing what wasn't working, and giving us the tools to work on them ourselves. Thank you Anil!”
